ABOUT US
Our Daily Bread, an initiative of the Kootenay Christian Fellowship Society, has been supporting community members in need since 2002. Founded by Pastor Jim Reimer and his wife, Doreen, Our Daily Bread provides healthy and nourishing meals, served with compassion and understanding, five days a week. Their dedication ensures that every "friend" at their tables receives emotional and essential support services.
Our purpose is to help those affected by homelessness, mental health issues, addictions, poverty, social isolation, limited social skills, limited education, and crises. We do this with respect and a commitment to honoring everyone's humanity. Beyond food distribution, we offer life coaching, resume-building opportunities, volunteering, emotional support, and spiritual counseling to assist individuals in rebuilding their lives and reintegrating into society.
Our initiatives include the provision of safe and affordable housing (Herridge Place), food distribution, our second-hand thrift store ( S.H.A.R.E) , and a daily hot lunch program. Our overarching goal is to provide essential food, shelter and clothing to those in need.
Each year, we serve nearly 20,000 meals to those experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. Five days a week, ODB offers a hot, nutritious meal in a safe, friendly, and welcoming environment in Nelson, BC. We strive to create a more accepting and equitable society. Daily, we serve up to 100 friends in need, all in an atmosphere of kindness and respect.
Pastor Jim and Doreen Reimer's kindness and genuine interest in those who visit Our Daily Bread make the organization a beacon of hope and a vital community resource. Their leadership and vision have been crucial in meeting needs for clothing and safe, affordable shelter, and their commitment shows their dedication to serving the community with compassion and respect. Their ongoing efforts ensure that Our Daily Bread continues to provide essential support and hope to those in need.
Supported by our small but mighty staff and the countless dedicated volunteers who have served the organization over the last 22 years, Our Daily Bread is built on compassionate community. We are so grateful to the staff, hundreds of volunteers and many supporters who make our mission possible.
Our Daily Bread relies on volunteers and donations to continue our essential work. Whether you contribute your time or resources, your support can greatly impact the lives of those facing food insecurity. Please join us in our efforts to reduce hunger and improve lives one meal at a time. Together, we can end hunger in our community and continue to share our bread with those in need.
